I have a very strange deal happening with my brake lights on a 1999 Grand
Cherokee Jeep. During the day the brake lights work just fine, but when I
turn on the head lights/tail lights, both tail lights and brake lights
don't work when I step on the brakes. The tail lights will be on until I
hit the brakes then the tail lights go out and the brake lights don't
work. Release the brake and the tail lights come back on.

I have no idea where to begin on this one. And why would the brake lights
have anything to do with the tail lights?

Everything else works fine, the back up light, turn signals would ok.

Naturally, this is a dangerous situation and I really don't dare drive at
night else someone could plow into while sitting at a stop light on a
very dark evening.

Any ideas from someone who understands the electronics on this type of
Jeep??

If it is strange check the grounds... Most likely the problem.
